It is estimated that over 8% of those incarcerated in the United States are veterans. Over half of them have mental health problems such as PTSD, depression, or Substance Use Disorder, which often impact all aspects of their life. Veterans cannot receive treatment or benefits while incarcerated and, therefore, often re-offend once released. The CLMP’s Criminal Justice Reform Division advocates for improvements in the criminal justice system to better assist our veterans.
